Meditation is such an important aspect of life and yet it's one of those things that we just don't believe we have time for. I'm reading the book "Start Where You Are" by Pema Chodron. She makes meditation sounds so simple and it really is. She says in her book, "Meditation practice is a formal way in which you get used to lightening up." What I often share in our monthly meditation workshop is that the hardest part of mediation is creating the space and committing the time to sit and be quiet. Whatever else happens after that is irrelevant. I think that's what Chodron means by "lightening up."
A friend shared an article with me, http://thechart.blogs.cnn.com/2011/11/21/how-meditating-may-help-your-brain/?hpt=hp_c3, which offers scientific proof that mediating is good for us. There's little doubt to the value of mediation any more especially in the fast pace, interactive life that is so common place in society. Taking a moment to be still without any other stimulus but our own mind can be so powerful and healing and even foreign to many people.
So make that commitment to yourself to meditate every day even if it's only for 5 minutes. Just pick a time that is realistic for you to do every day and stick to it. Soon you will see the benefits and meditating will simply become a part of your every day life. Why not give it a try?

I am so ever grateful to the practice of meditation and the self growth I've experienced from it this past year. Krista and her group meditation &workshops are a wonderful starting point to building your own "lightening up". My life has been a stressful one and almost a year in, I can truly say my daily dedication to meditation brings nothing but growth and spiritual peace to my center
ReplyDeleteI'm beginning to explore more meditation in my life, and I like the idea of "lightening up." Even if it's just for 5 minutes at first, I know the benefits of meditation show up not when you're practicing it, but in every day life. Thanks for this, Krista! xo Chels ArtfulBalanceHolistic.com
